95 Silverado 2WD Driveline Vibration
95 Silverado, 2WD, Auto, 75-80 MPH I get a humming/ vibration from the rear of the truck. U-joints are good but when I was under there checking them out I noticed that my driveshaft has a carbon fiber looking cover around it and it has a 2 1/2 inch crack twords the front and another of similar size near the rear. why is this cover on there and can I just peel it off, or do I need a new driveshaft? The truck has 165,000 miles on it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that it is driveshaft related, I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this, and if it is common for these to split like that. I'm hoping it's not a pinion bearing, or worse a bad bearing in the tailshaft.
