97 Chevy Reverse Light Problems

Ok so my reverse light are not working on my truck (97 Chevy K1500 Z-71) and have not worked for awhile. I have checked all the fuses and mad sure the taillight connection was good but I can not for the life of me get the reverse lights to work. Is there a reverse sensor some where on the truck that could have possibly failed? If so where is it and what is the part called cause I have tried doing a parts search and can't find anything. I have also tried finding a reverse relay but have not be able to do so!

Thanks

does it keep blowing a fuse? or do they just not work? the backup lamps are constantly grounded.. just waiting for power to be applied to them via the light green wire (ckt 24).

here is a wiring diagram. if you have checked the fuse and ground for the bulbs.. then the problem might be the park/neutral position switch. I am assuming your truck is an automatic.

hope this helps.

It is not blowing an fuses. The only lights that do not work are the reverse lights and I have checked the bulbs and the filaments are still good. I will have to prob the GRN reverse power line and see if it is getting any voltage in reverse. If not I am assuming it is the park/neutral position switch, correct?

that is what i would start with.

Ok, Thanks for the info. I will check the voltage of the reverse light connector. I am assuming the park/neutral position switch in located around the steering column.

Nevermind...I found it and the location. All the parts places refer to it as the Neutral safety switch.

correct, hope you figure it out

park/neutral safety/backup switch is down towards base of steering column. kind of a plate looking deal with one or two connectors coming out of it.

my reverse lights won’t come on. I’ve checked fuses changed the back up switch and everything thing else. All of my other lights work perfectly. Does anybody know what it could be. Thanks
