Access through firewall
Hi All,
I've got a nice black 05 Silverado 1500HD LT. Love my Chevy! I want to install a backup camera and need to find a good way to go through the firewall. From what I've been told there's a spot near the exhaust, but that doesn't sound good for wiring. Is there another place I can get access?
Is there somewhere I can go to get a schematic of the firewall? I don't want to do a sloppy job or mess something up. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,

RE: Access through firewall
I just picked a spot that looked clear from both sides, drilled thru and put in a grommet whenever I had to run wires. I found it was easier down by the pedals on a flat area. Not close to anything that could be a problem.

What camera are you installing on your Silverado? what camera do others have? I just got a 2007 NBS silverado and want a backup camera as well. However, I dont know exactly where I can mount one. I dont want to drill on the bumper or cut out a hole for a unit like the Kenwood CCD-900 which I had on my tahoe.

RE: Access through firewall
I used a Kenwood CCD 2000 & mounted the camera between the bumper & below the tailgate. DON'T try to mount it on the ouside of this lip because when you open the tailgate you will crack the lense!!! I did so I fabed. a braket & drilled a hole in this lip & with a grommet it is very hard to see.

What camera did you use chas1955? Also, how about a photo of a few feet away showing exactly where your camera is located and the look. Thanks for the info.
