Default advice needed

I am looking to update.
I have a 99 chevy 1/2 ton xcab 4x4 350 auto.
I want a crew cab 4x4 short bed
Would like to get some thing around 2002-2006. Around $10k or so
How many miles do you think is to much?
I am leaning toward a 1500 with the 5.3.
I have seen more 1500HD with the 6.0.
I do pull some but not a lot. If the trucks where the same but just the motor difference. What would be the MPG difference between the 2?
I found a pickup with 6.0 and 275k on it and the owner says he get 18 mpg hwy driving.
I think that's getting to be to many miles. What do you think?
I realize this is a chevy forum but I looked at a ford with the 5.4. I like the pickup but most thing i read on MPG for them is not very good. 13ish mpg hwy driving.
I have had both ford and chevy. Both have been good trucks.
But I need some thing that does decent on MPG.
Any way for you guys that have had both the 5.3 and or 6.0 what do you think?
thanks again for your help
