Fan clutch 2003 siverado
My Silverado has 140k on it and is all original except for the tires, plugs, wires and oil. It is all higway miles. My water pump is leaking and as I am in the process of replacing it I find I am unable to remove the fan clutch. it looks like the it is a left handed thread but I am unable to break it loose. does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,rwa000,
Welcome to the Chevy forums.
Yes, you need a strap wrench for the WP pulley, and a large flat wrench on the clutch nut both at once. Both are available at most large parts stores cheap. Think about changing your fan clutch, also, mostly because the OEM unit is a brick. The parts store replacement should weigh 1/3 as much or less.
Use some Hi-Temp silicone RTV on the new WP gaskets, all the vortecs from this time leak
badly at the WP gaskets. Use new worm-drive clamps on your hoses, and the rest of the install should be easy.

i like to use an air hammer, mostly cause it is fast, cheap, and i like to run an air hammer, but they are right hand thread so if you keep going the wrong way an air hammer might be the only way you get it off of there, they have to be jarred loose, the hammering motion does it quite nicely
