Life Left?
Hello
I was thinking about purchasing a 2000 silverado 5.3L extended cab 4x4, Z71 with around 419 000kms on it. Here are some detailsabout it. I know these are alot of kms but the truck has regular oil changes at 5000mile intervals, it has never had a problem before, besides the abs light coming on sometimes. The truck was maintained by my friend who took extremely good care of it and it looks brand new. This truck exactly 1.5 years ago had pace setter headers bolted on, AEM intake, flowmaster super40 side exit, hypertech programmer and iridium plugs, and it has all worked perfectly. The truck burns no oil at all, transmission shifts perfect and color is normal and it runs really strong. All the has been replaced is some ball joints and other front end parts. I plan on putting on around 200kms a day 5 days a week at least. Also, it is being sold for preety cheap at 3000. Im just wondering if this truck has some life left in it and if its worth buying? Thanks for any advice! |
RE: Life Left?
Welcome to the forum!!! I would say that it still would have many many miles left to go before it needs a overhaul, and it sounds like something I would buy If I was looking for a used truck. If you treatit nice, thenthe truckwill be nice in return.

RE: Life Left?
For us KY rednecks that is 260K miles.
Still a lot of miles, if I were going to use the truck around on the farm or just use it to go hunting in the back fields, no long trips involved. I would pay that price for it. If I had to depend on it as a daily driver to work and back, no I would look for a vehicle with many less miles. That truck has done well for your friend, but it is about to go down and go down heavy:motor, transmission, differential, then you loose your inexpensive truck. Been there, done that. Just my experience with GM trucks, am sure others have had much better experinces with GM trucks than I have. Just my 2 cents!!!! |
RE: Life Left?
you know i have seen chevytrucks go 500,000 miles. but you know i think for reliability it would be best to find another truck with less miles, probably around 100,000 miles. but then again you may get lucky and that truck would last for a 1,000,000 miles, but who knows. its really your decision in the end. oh sorry i didnt put those numbers in kilos

RE: Life Left?
i think if you can overhaul the engine when it blows why not... 3000 dollars little more than a 1000 dollars in the engine when it does blow you got lets say 4500 dollars in a 2000 4x4 full size. and just expect to put time and money into repairs down the road.. but really ive seen truck go through 2 rebuilds and never have any other maint doen to them besides oil changes and what not... but on the other side i wouldnt get a loan on it.. id pay as much up front as possible cause you dont want to get stuck with a 3000 dollar loan and 6 months be rebuilding the engine still paying on it.
