im new to the 4wd scene and i was wanting around 2-3in of lift without really buying anything but blocks cuz i heard you could crank your torsion bars and ive been looking at leveling kits and they do it with torsion keys what exactly are those

im doing this to a 95 k1500

Torsion keys are the adjustment levers at the end of the torsion bars.
You won't get much more than 1.5" of lift out of the T-bars without making the suspension bare-bones. Blocks are ok for the rear, but shackles ride a lot better and are not that much more expensive.

the torsion keys allow the front end to be raised and lowered by adjusting the bolt on them. however, raising with the stock keys in place make for a rougher ride as it puts more tension on the torsion bars. these new keys relocate the torsion bars to a raised height, yet stock feel suspension, not as much tension on the bars. they're easy to install, then use blocks or lift springs out back.

so if i crank mine up with the factory torsion keys to fit 33's -32's it'll ride like crap but will affect the bars in any way and how hard is it to change the keys

what all is involved in changing the keys

basically, you jack front end up, climb underneath and take out the torsion key bolts (1 for each key) you may need to use a clamp to keep tension on the key if all the tension does not release. what you want is the bar itself loose enough to slide forward so the key will drop out. then install new key, clamp if needed, slide bar back into key, install bolt and crank to desired height. now, this is a general rundown, there are more specifics that need to be followed, which a good kit will have good install instructions. usually an hour or two work, and your done. you will need an alignment afterwards tho.

you could crank your keys but like maxxman said it'll ride like crap...i replaced mine with the ready lift keys and got 2.5 inches with them for 33s then used blocks for the back...I went and had them changed professionally as it was only 40 bucks instead of buyin the 100 dollar tool

You dont need new keys for your truck. You can crank your stock keys enough to get it to the droop stops if your torsion bars are not weak. Put a block in the back and you would be fine. Just make sure that when you crank your keys that you go and get an alignment afterwards.

X2 for the alignment. I cranked my keys and got 2 1/4 inches out of it, but I have a 07 and a HD to boot. I doesn't feel to bad ride wise, unless you have to pull into a gas station real fast that has a steep ramp... You will get the front end off the ground... Trust me.
