My ABS pump is stuck on
I have a 99 Siverado 3/4 ton, 6.0 with 67,000 miles on it. I went out to drive it last weekend and I noticed a very loud humming/buzzing when I started the truck. I shut the truck off and the humming continued. I climbed under the truck to see and noticed it was the ABS pump on. I then noticed that my ABS light was lit up on my dash. It was strange that the pump continued to run even though the truck was off. After a while, I just decided to unplug the pump so it would turn off. The truck still drives and stops fine. Any ideas about what is causing this? What to fix it? My ABS and brake light stays on now when I am driving. Its kind of irritating. Please help. Thanks.

Your EBCM-Electronic Brake Control Module is bad. You will need to replace it to fix the problem. It is the electronic component mounted on top of the pump. I just had to replace mine less than a month ago.

there should be a 40amp maxifuse which powers it. pull the fuse.

Is it hard hard replace? Is it a DIY?
|
nope, not hard to do. 4 maybe 10mms hold it in place and 4 brake lines for the hydraulic unit. they are mated with like a 4mm screw or torx star heads. the brains usually sit under it or above it with 1 or 2 electrical connectors.

4-T15/T20(don't remember) screws and 3 electrical connectors. With proper tools should take about 1/2 hour to change. Screws are on top of module and are a bit awkward to unscrew but definitely a DIY job. I would not recommend just pulling the fuse because you will not have anti-lock brakes. You will either have to buy from the dealer or find a company online who rebuilds them because I couldn't find a single parts store who carried any. If you go to the dealer take your Vin # as there could be more than 1 part number that is listed for your truck. Mine had more than 1 and I got lucky that it was the cheaper of the two listed.

Sounds like great info. Will I have to bleed the brakes after changing it?
|
No, you don't open any brake lines. 4 screws and 3 electrical plugs and that's it. To keep everything clean you could blow off the area with an air hose- this may also keep particles from getting in your eyes ad you have to get your face up in there to see.

Just so you know when your done the ABS light will go off without the use of a scan tool.

Nice! Thank you.
