RE: my cheapest route to a lift?
i got torsion bar arms, reconfigured for 3' lift from off road engineering in california. they were easy to install, were advertised as 2 1/2' lift, but i got 3' and kept my factory settings. you will need a front end alighnment. the you can buy the back half of a rancho 4' lift; blocks, u-bolts, centering pins, also easy to install. you will the need 3' longer shocks from bilstein. all this was installed on an 01 2500 silver 4x4. it has worked perfect for 70k. i think someone has put this a-la-cart kit together, check summit.

3" Body lift. http://www.performanceaccessories.com/
Not hard to install but an all day job. No new shocks needed, no alignment needed, same ride as stock. You can get "gap guards" to hide the gap in the wheelwells. N-fab makes great side step bars that bolt to the body not the frame. Personally the only thing I didn't like about body lifts are the gaps. But the above mentioned things hide them completely on my truck.
