Older Non-computer motor in newer truck?

We have a 1988 Silverado which needs a new motor. We have a older motor (pre-fuel injection & old style valve covers) to maybe install. Questions are 1) Motor has an aftermarket cam, computer will not handle it, so we are told. 2) Older motor has no provision for "knock sensor" on side of block, if we elected to put throttle body on older motor. 3) Will serpentine belt and accessories bolt on to older motor? 4) If we put older motor in with carb. throttle linkage becomes an issue. Anybody done this? Have any thoughts? I am considering looking for a late model motor to minimize change over problems. Oh yea, 5 spd. manual tranny. Thanks for any help.

If you use a carb you will have to unhook the the electric fuel pump and go with a regular pump. Put in a HEI dist with a hot lead should be ok. Belts and acc's should bolt up without any issues. Engine will bolt up to trans housing with no issues. Exhaust should be ok, use the existing manifolds.
