Shift lever in park but not Transmission
On my 1998 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado Z71 the shift lever on the steering column will go in park but the transmission is still in reverse. The transmission will shift to other gears but not park unless manually pushing on the Shift lever on the transmission. I was just wondering what it could be and how to fix it?

Can you shift out of park without the brake? Not that I have tried recently - but I guess you can shift into park without your foot on the brake. It is usually needed to remove from park....Maybe that mechanism is bad?
There might be an adjustment on the shift cable. Do you see any slack or does the cable get tighter when putting into park manually? There was an adjustment on a 2002 j-body I had. A big plastic looking thing. I couldn't get into park because it needed adjusting - but I also did NOT have first gear ...I guess the cable could be wore out also and doesn't give it enough push.
