Spark plug life
Do you find the plugs in the 5.3 holding up to the 100,000 miles they say they can? Wondering if I should check them out just to be sure.
check them or change them at 60000 mile the longer they are the more difficult they are to get out. I hear horror stories about plug breaking in head
I have seen them last far longer than 100,000 but have also seen them worn out much sooner also. It would not be a bad idea to check them.
I have 50k on mine, but 45k of that are somebody elses miles. Thinking about pulling to inspect at the least. Do these iridium plugs look any different than a standard plug when bad?
I changed mine when I picked up my truck. It had 55k on it. If you are going to check them, might as well change them. I put in Bosch Fusions. They have gotten varying reviews, but as long as you put in a good plug, you'll be fine. Use some anti-sieze for the threads and some dielectric grease for the boots, and the next time you change them it'll be smooth sailing.

Ok, so I pulled a couple. They looked ok, but I decided to replace them since I was going to the trouble to pull them. Glad I did because the back passenger side plug was pretty dry on the threads and harder to get out. The other 7 looked like they had anti-sieze or oil on them. Maybe they had been pulled and inspected before. Replaced them with AC Delco's OE part.
Could be in my head, but I swear a bit of a tick that was there before is gone. |
