RE: Spark Plug Replacement... Help

I didn't change my plugs until 120,000 on my 2000 Z71 because it ran fine. Was getting it ready for a trip out west so I changed the plugs. Was a piece of cake. Be careful removing the wires from the plugs so the ends don't come off the wires, twist them a lot. Be sure to check the gap of the new ones, a guy in the store told me they come pre gaped, he don't know crap I tell you. Out of 8 plugs I had 4 different gaps. I now have over 160,000 on it and no problems. Don't go with the cheap plugs, get the good ones.

At 57,000 miles, the "100,000 mile Iridium" Spark plugs on my 04 Silverado were getting ready to melt right off the side of the engine. So don't always believe the factory hype.
Melt off? Please explain.

They are pre-gapped from the plug factory. But they are kicked, thrown & dropped 30 times before they even make it to the parts store. Always a good idea to check them.

I'm getting ready to replace the spark plugs on my 1500HD with 106000 miles on it. Other than twisting the wire caps before removing the wires is there any other "surprises" I may encounter?

I'd like to know what that means also. My truck is a '97 Silverado with about 140k. Looked at the plugs at about 110k, was set to replace them but, they looked brand new (just a bit discolored) truck was running fine so I left them in.

Just drove over 2000 mi round trip to Vegas from Pacific North West without a hiccup. 17mpg+ driving 75-85 most of the way.

I'm thinking I ought to replace them but, geez, those are some darn good plugs!
