Want bigger tires
Hey, I just bought an 05 1500 crew cab Z71 and i want to put bigger tires on it without a lift. I have 265 70 r17s on it now. Anybody know how big I can go? Also whats a good cheap tire?

RE: Want bigger tires
I have an 02 1500 Z71 that has 305/65r17 Pro Comp Xtreme's on it. I get a little bit of a rub, but its not too bad, and its only when I turn the wheel all the way (which rarely need to do). I know they are different body styles btw the 02 and your 05 but it should be pretty close to the same.
Check eBay for tires. I would never go with a cheaper tire. Maybe go cheaper on other things, but tires, could save your life. BF Goodrich are pretty good tires at a good price. But ebay has good tires for low price. Just something to look into |
RE: Want bigger tires
No offense but why bother? Without a lift or at least a leveling kit you won't be able to go much bigger, maybe an inch bigger in diameter, but is itworth spending a grand on rubber to go up an inch? I've been there myself with my truck, you won't get a bigger look unless you go up to at least a 33" tire, and for that you'll need a leveling kit or a small lift.

Thanks, thats pretty much the answer i was looking for, you reccomend any certain leveling kits? Never done one before.

Leveling kits are usually pretty easy to install. All the ones I've ever put in have been bolt on. I'd go with Skyjacker or Pro comp. I've seen bad things happen with the rough country lift systems and leveling kits. They seem to wear out kinda quick comparatively.

I would just crank your stock t-bars a little for about 1.5" of lift. That should be enough to clear a small 33 no problem.
