I hate to say it but you have a GM dealer filling you full of crap and one that doesnt want to deal with onstar. Ive disconnected many and never had one that wouldnt run after. It will however create a number of lights to come on. The onstar unit is capable of doing a diagnostics check and when simply disconnected it will give a false warning. GM does make a wiring connect to replace the unit when removed, Good luck getting them to admit to it tho.
A good dealer can get the info and the adapter to do the job. |
depends on how the CAN lines are configured. On some gm systems if you unplug a module, all modules wired after that module can't communicate.
I've looked at the set up for your 09 aveo. From the diagram I looked at the CAN lines have parallel connections. Unplug it and see what happens. key off before plugging in or unplugging any module. It will set "undefined" codes as other modules will be looking for information from the unplugged module. If it doesn't start you know others modules have lost communication also. |
thanks

The solution
After much digging I have the answer.
There is a purple and a yellow wire in each of the two wiring harnesses that connect to the Onstar module. Unplug the module, cut those four wires, connect the yellow to the yellow and the purple to the purple. Cheers! |
and if this is a CAN communication line remember to make each repair exactly the same... changing wire length to one and not the other will cause corruption by altering signal timing.
