Horn problems
 

Hello, I have a situation here with my 2005 Aveo that I can’t figure out. The other night the horn started going off by itself so I went out and disconnected the battery terminal, after a couple tries of reconnecting the terminal it finally shut off. At the time the temp outside was below freezing so I thought maybe moisture had got into the horn relay then freezing causing the problem. The car went 2 days without the horn going off, and then yesterday afternoon it went off again. This time the outside temp was well above freezing so that ruled out my first theory, this time I went to the fuse box in the car and pulled the horn fuse but that did nothing to stop the horn from blowing.

I pulled the battery terminal again and of coarse it stopped, but this time it wouldn’t shut off when reconnecting the terminal. I located the horn and unplugged the wires from the horn and then reconnected the battery terminal, I plugged the wires back into the horn and everything was fine. I have disconnected the horn for now because it’s obvious there is a short someplace but I don’t know where and where to look. The other thing that has me baffled is why when I pulled the fuse didn’t the horn stop blowing? The thing I did do was after I got the horn stopped and working again was to pull the fuse and check the horn, this time the horn wouldn’t work until I put the fuse back in. Any help or thoughts you guys have would be much appreciated and sorry for the long first post.

I think I'd just leave the horn disconnected. I know that's not much help but I'm not that familiar with an aveo.

you need to check that something isn't catching any of your wires. its a good chance that its touching another wire close by, it could inter-fear and set it off.

I agree, when I get some time I will start checking the wires from the steering column to the fuse box. I'm sure it's something simple but it could take awhile to trace it down.

id replace the horn relay and iv also heard of air bags swelling and causing the horn to go off all by its self

I had the same problem with my horn just going off by itself. Once in the summer and once in the winter. I had the horn relay replaced after the first time. Obviously, it wasn't the horn relay. If anyone finds a solution to this problem it would be much appreciated. Having a small car is so dangerous without a horn. I've had so many big trucks, people on cell phones and semi trucks not see me and pull right in to me.
