Default Straight water in the surge overflow

2011 Chevy Aveo. An iIndividual filled surge overflow with straight water and drove it for several months in the summer. Now engine is choppy and overheats after approx 5 minutes idling. I drained only the surge overflow and filled to max with 50/50 antifreeze. I don't see the fan coming on. I don't feel any fluid moving through hoses. Haven't checked fuses yet. I'm still in the process of diagnosing everything. I'm not mechanically inclined, just learning as I go. It looks like there's a lot of components to test.

Water in surge no problem unless it froze & cracked tank. Time to seek out a reputable mechanic to help you with current problem. Could be anything from a bad radiator or water pump to a stuck thermostat.
