Welcome to the forum.

It could be binding which it senses as an obstruction and closes. Have you tried assisting it by hand to see if it will open fully?

yeah ive helped it up but if u let go it comes back down

Best guess is then that whatever senses an obstruction is FUBAR or needs adjustment, if adjustable.

Maybe shawnvw can chime in.

I just had this problem with my suburban. Anyone have any idea how much or how hard this TSB is? I am out of warranty.

gate

.... still waiting for the get it up jokes...

My 09 power lift gate still works... one thing I can't complain about.

An option I didn't list, but hey, it has it, and now I do like it.

just make sure the assist rods/struts haven't failed. when they get weak the hatch will only work properly when you assist it by hand.

thanks I will do that first. Appreciate it.

I'll add also, get quality lift assist struts not the cheapest ones...
Remember to support the hatch with a 2x4 or someone helping you, that hatch is heavy, don't rely on the lift assist to hold it open when you change the struts...
