'16 Suburban obstacle detection fuse blown

My wife's 2016 suburban came up with the Service Park Assist System and Service Front Camera yesterday. The Obstacle Detection fuse (#28) in the right dash fuse block is blown. Any suggestions on where to troubleshoot?

Check the sensors themselves for damage or moisture ingress

I’m having the same issue in my 2016 suburban. Fuse 28 keeps shorting literally as soon as I replace the fuse it will immediately pop. I don’t see any exposed wires anywhere obvious and I can’t find a wire map ANYWHERE to try and trouble shoot. Nothing blocking the camera or the sensors. Anyone have access to the wire schematic by chance?

Did anyone figure out the source of this blown fuse? Just bought my 15 suburban and started having this issue. Found the blown fuse and the new one popped as soon as I replaced it.

The issue was gradual, started with service side detection, then park assist, then it snowballed fast with front camera, then airbag, then the instrument panel started failing intermittently followed by service theft detection system.

I first disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and reattached with no improvement. Had a mechanic stop by to run a scanner and of course none of the issues popped up during that tume, however park assist system was not functioning. He cleared the codes to see what would reappear. Drove it 30 miles yesterday with no warning lights.

Today I found the blown fuse. Please help. 🙏

Hi,

so a few things to check, first is ensure the voltage on your battery is good. I learned that the batteries last maybe 2 or 3 years tops and can cause all of the crazy codes and electronic warnings you mentioned. It also prevented my from shutting my car off.

next I spent many many days under that hood and climbing around the car. In my research I learned water was getting into something so check all of these:

1. at the base of your windshield, make sure there isn’t any debris like pine needles or leaves to divert water. Stuff gets stuck in there all the time!
2. At the sunroof, when you open it, there’s drain tubes on the passenger and drivers side. Make sure no debris is blocking those and I’d take it a step further and pour some water down there to see if it comes out at the bottom between the tire and door hinges. If it doesn’t the water likes to find its way out via paths that hit electronics.
3. check to see if your carpet is wet at all after rain or a car wash between the engine bay and cabin on either side of the car. That also means clogged drainage.
4. I found a worn connection at my drivers fog light. That was causing my fuse to short. You can see what each fuse controls which gives you a good idea where to focus your attention to.
5. my side detection never came back on but I heard that requires some dealership reset after the fuse blows or something that I haven’t cared enough to do. I read they will tend to push to replace the sensor and I’m not putting that money into it unless I knew for sure the main issue was resolved.

knock on wood after the fog lamp and replacing the battery the issues have subsided for now but I’m not holding my breath since this took so long to get where I am. Crossing my fingers for you that you just need to replace your battery and hope all of my research helps someone out. I couldn’t believe how many people had these same problems but no one had the answers.

Thank you for the fast reply! I will double check the battery but the dealer said they replaced it right before I purchased it in November, claiming it was dead upon arrival but the old battery was 8 years old. Any luck on schematics/wire diagrams? I do Park outside under a pine tree. It would be mind blowing if something so simple and normal could cause such havoc but I will also check drainage. I purchased with the side detection light on but that appeared to be normal. The inspection didn't note any issues. A lot of the issues started after our first snow fall and I had to bulldoze some snow with the low front bumper. i need to jack up the front end to see sensor wires because i cant squeeze between the ground and bumper. Thank you again, I will let you know what I discover!
