2004 Suburban Z71 - What to look for?
Hi Everyone. I'm new to the forum, but not to Chevy. I have been driving other vehicles now for about 6 years, but have finally decided to get back behind the wheel of a Chevy.
I am looking at a 2004 Chevy Suburban, which I have never owned before. I just got out of a bad relationship with an import vehicle that had a leaky valve issue that was going to cost me $8k to repair...yeah right. Because of this terrible experience with my last vehicle though, I am being very cautious on my next purchase because I don't want to go from one major issue to another. That said... Does anyone have any input as far as what some of the common/known issues are on the 2004 model specifically? I'd like to arrive to check out the one I have in mind with a checklist of issues to make sure they don't exist or have already been addressed. It's an 04 Suburban Z71 79,000 miles. Dealership is asking $12,900. My first caution was the price/mileage ratio. However, I talked to the dealer and also checked the Carfax and it was clean. I plan to go see it in person in the next couple days. (its about an hour away from me). My apologies if this kind of question has already been answered on the forum. I looked around for something to that effect, but could not locate anything. Thank you! |
Welcome to the forum.
My wife's 2004 has about 60K on it and so far has been relatively trouble free. Just had to replace the TPMS sensors for about $200 P & L. Other than that just routine maintenance. Just be sure to check out all of the mechanics and electronics. If it has RSE, be sure to get the remote and two wireless headsets that should come w/ it. Make sure the seats all fold and third row removes and re-installs OK. Check power seats, pedals, folding mirrors, and, if possible, try to drive at nite to check the auto dimming on the rear view and driver's side mirrors. Also check rear defogger for open grid lines. Get both remotes and make sure they work. Check all the lites and ABS. Ask them for a brake pad thickness check. When driving and coming to a stop, check for warped rotors. Put on rack and look for leaks. Check Edmund's and Kelley's for price comps. |
Help
They won't let me post this... But...
can someone help me with my suburban 04? It gets to around 210 degrees and shuts off... Won't start back up, or run until it cools back down... Which can take hours and will only go a few miles... I replaced the intake mani gaskets and tbsensor and fuel relay chip but to no avail... I don't know what else to do because all the codes that came up for this problem I already replaced and there are no new codes popping up... Please help |
