2009+ Suburban & Yukon XL owners post real world MPG
 

Hey guys, long time Chevy owner, but I'm new here. :cool:

I'm strongly considering a 2009+ 5.3L 6speed 4x4 suburban as our next vehicle.
We currently have a 2004 GMC Envoy with the I6 that gets 14mpg / 19mpg.
I'm thinking I'd rather have the V8 power and more space for the same or better MPG if that's feasible.
Fuel Economy.gov's website only has 2WD models rated......so I'm not sure what the 4x4's get being obviously heavier.

So what I'm looking for here is people who own 2009+ Suburbans to chime in with their MPG.
Anything from 2009 and newer (6 speeds) with the 5.3L and 4x4. Let me know your rear gear too.

In my brief research I've noticed there's a few rear end gear sets 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10 ??
If there's any others feel free to help me out and enlighten me.

So let me know what % of city and highway you do and what you average per tank.
I'm really looking for people who do 95+% city driving to chime in so I know what to expect.

Here's my classic Chevy.....just to keep it fun. GTO LS1 powered.
I'm intimately familiar with GM's LS engines and I'm also putting an LY6 6.0L in my 1970 442.

I went from a 2001 Suburban to a 2007.. (Same truck as the 2009+)

I get 15mpg average if I don't reset the system for a while. Pretty much the same consumption as my 2001.

The engine is more economic but the weight increase between the models makes that a wash IMO.

Welcome to the forum. My 2010 gets 11-13 in town depending on trip length and 18-20 on hwy depending on speed.

Do you have the 5.3L or 6.0L and happen to know what your rear gear ratio is ??
I was told it's on the service tag.....the code.

The 2010 Tahoe which is rated for 14 / 20 so 13 is close, but 11 is pretty far off unless that's with 4x4 engaged or winter blend fuel.

I have the 5.3L (6.0 was not available in 2010) and 3.42 ratios (GU6). My mpg values are calculated. The DIC numbers run about 0.5-1.0 mpg higher which has been my experience w/ all the GM vehicles I've owned.

There is no way you'll get 20 (I thought it was 21) on the hwy above ~55 mph. In town, it's strictly length of run, surface streets vs freeways, and how many stops you make.

On my 2007, I forgot to take out of 4WD after pulling my jet ski out of the lake and drove home 150 mi. Got a little over 21 mpg at 70-75 mph. Go figure.

What kinda headers and sidepipes are you using on it? Also will the fit on the stock 350, because i really wanna put a set on my 79 Z28.
