2013 Tahoe LTZ oil leak

I bought this Tahoe in July of 2013. Around two weeks after I have the oil changed the truck starts leaking oil near the filter. Also I have had two different dealers change my oil, same problem.I have had to take it back at least 3 times for this problem. The dealer says the filter needed tightening and they wiped off the residue. They tell me to keep an eye on it and bring it back if it does it again. Well, I'm tired of keeping my eye on it and the oil has ruined my driveway. I need some help here!! Anyone else have a similar problem? Customer Service could you help me? I feel as though I'm being blown off by this dealer.

The first place that changed your oil some how messed up the seat of the oil filter. You can usually start over by removing the oil filter and checking the mating surface for leftover gasket/o-ring. BUT like you said you've had it at two dealerships? Makes me think they messed up your truck. If it's a 2013, it's still under warranty.

Are you talking Chevy Dealerships or just a Dealer?

SoftailRdr August 20th, 2014 2:32 PM

Yes, one is a Chevy Dealer the other is Cadillac. Both are GM dealers. I took it to Chevy first where I bought he truck, after the leak I took it to the Cadillac dealer after about a week the same thing, leaking. I also think Chevy dealer messed up something!!!

Hope you figure it out, but how the heck do you mess that up? Isn't kind tucked up in there? Unless they tried to force on a filter with no gasket (metal on metal) and chewed it up?

Or maybe that part was never cast right and somehow made it into the wild? Color me confused...

Im having the same problem. Today is the 4th time I have had this vehicle in the shop. They keep telling me that there is a bulletin and it is caused by not tightening the filter correctly. Amber, or Someone, how can you help me? Im going to go the lemon law route asap.

Can someone post a pic? On my 09 I always felt... why is this filter so freaking small for such a large engine? And why am I getting oil all over the freaking place?
My Jeep (2012 Wrangler Rubicon) had it up on TOP of the engine. Self draining, and without a metal canister (reduces waste). That was smart... But apparently the person designing at GM has never changed their own oil...

Some days I really miss that Jeep :( it was my 3rd lol.

Apparently my post above Scotiapilot is not as important since I wasn't asked to provide anything. Mine is a $64,000 LEMON. So frustrated... Can't get anyone from GM to do anything about it.

Relax, you aren't missing anything. the outsourced social media task force is more about quelling the masses than resolving issues...

Depending on your state you may have missed the lemon route. I believe many state first 12,000 miles or year of ownership.

Still leaking.

I am having the same issue. In May I bought a 2015 Z71 and a 2013 Tahoe hybrid. My Tahoe has about 20,000 miles on it and has been back to the dealer 2 times because of the oil leak. The first time they looked at it tightened the oil filter but it didn't stop. The second time I paid for an oil change which stopped it for a while but now it's started again. I have given up going back to the dealer because it does stop. It is so frustrating when you drop that kind of money to end up with issues like this.

Hi there,

We can definitely understand how frustrating this may seem especially when unexpected concerns occur. If you should need any assistance bringing this to another dealership's attention for a possible second opinion, I would be happy to help!

Amber, I drive both a 2013 and a 2014 Caprice Police package with the 6L V-8. Every time the oil is changed there is an oil leak. After losing about fourth a quart and tightening the filter a few times, the leak stops (although they don't always see a leak). This happens at our state garage, a local oil change place (Purolator filters), and at the dealer with Delco filters. It's been suggested there's some time of vent that's overflowing with the higher pressure.....this is on numerous patrol cars with our agency. Please advise if you have a fix or can shed some light on the situation.

I know this is an old thread I'm attempting to resurrect, but I'm having the same issue with an oil leak common to the top of the oil filter. I've checked the oil cooler lines and the oil cooler plate gasket above the oil filter and they're dry. It almost looks like the oil filter gasket contact area is crooked? See attached photo

Was there ever any resolution with this issue?

I wanted to post an update with my issue. The dealership was installing a PF63e filter instead of the correct PF48. After they installed the PF48 filter, no more leaks
