2019 Suburban needs new transmission at 82,400 miles
 

Hey y’all! My burban (kindly named the BBC…obviously for Big Black Chevy…) needs a new transmission. Before I get the new one, anybody have any insight on what I may need to make sure this new or rebuilt transmission has or doesn’t have, or anything else that may need to be done while being worked on to avoid the dreaded GM transmission issue again? Thanks in advance! (P.S. not afraid to admit that this post probably sounds like it’s coming from a chic who doesn’t know $hℹ️t about vehicles, cause it is!)

We needed rebuilt transmissions for both our 1994 Suburban 2WD and 2005 Yukon Denali AWD at maybe 150K miles; Mrs. Cusser used those both for occasional towing of horse trailer/2 horses. We paid $2K for each at a local transmission shop recommended by our local ASE mechanic.

Both vehicles were sold at 220-230K miles. Now she has a 2011 Yukon Denali and still tows. Automatic transmissions will generally not last as long as modern engines.

Find a trusted shop for rebuild and ask their recommendation for servicing in the future. Rebuilt our 93 Sub at about 200k, still doing well at 350k

Welcome from Florida. Did you buy an extended warranty with the truck? At 82,400 you might still be in warranty!

I did! Thankfully! Waiting to hear from the warranty company if they are going to cover it (although I pretty sure it does cover it). I just want to make sure I get what I need to do that this doesn’t happen again. The BBC doesn’t do any hauling, she has a easy life now. Although, I don’t know what her first 36k miles were like. Lol

How often did you change/flush the transmission fluid?

I took my old '99 Yukon to 225k miles on the original trans. and sold it shifting just fine and I tow frequently. How, I change my trans. fluid every 45k miles that's how. I've taken may vehicles to over 200k miles doing it by the Severe maintenance schedule in the owner's manual. My '11 Tahoe is at 145k now and doing just fine, in fact just got done towing the camper to and from the Cup race at the Glen.
Fluid changes are a lot cheaper than trans. replacement. Cheaper than a warranty deductible also and no loss of use time either.
