2WD to 4WD

I have a 2012 suburban 2500 8lug 2wd and was curious if it was possible to convert it to 4wd. Of course its possible but would it be worth it? What does that nightmare of a project entail besides a new front axel? Has anyone done this or could think of an estimate for what it would cost. Thanks :)

Welcome to the forum.

Besides the front axle with the same gear ratio as the rear axle, you would also need a transfer case and a new rear drive shaft. Besides all of that you would need to get the proper electronics, wiring, control switch, and programming done. Bottom line is that it would be very expensive.

Does my 2500 burb share the same components as the 2500 silverado’s? if so i could prob scour some junk yards to see what i find

what's that cost vs. trade in and buying a 4x4 one?

I think the salvage yards can look up and tell you whether or not the Silverado axles will work.

I’m not sure exactly but i probably can’t find one in as good condition as mine. 20k miles texas burb with no rust. i’d hate to have to get something new but if i can keep it under 3grand for the conversion i would be happy (labor is going to be free)
