98 suburban 2500 shift linkage

Hey I'm a little stumped here. My shift Lincoln spoke vintage broke when I was on a hill. Like an idiot I tried jamming it into drive and something broke. I removed the knee bolster and found the linkage. I. I disconnected the actual linkage and the cable is still good down to the transmission. I don't know what caused it not to engage in the 1st place and I'm not sure what is broken at the moment causing it to flop back-and-forth instead of going forward and backwards. Here's a picture

This linkage just flops side the side but the cable was not broken. I found some black plastic pieces but not sure where they went. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you AJ

In the picture it looks like the metal arm broke off above judging by the rough surface section on it in the picture.
