A/C Recirculation Toggle

Why do all GM cars w/ climate control not remember the recirculation setting when the car is turned off? Why is this a soft toggle, while the a/c (lil snow button) is a hard toggle? Is this somethng that can be "fixed" or do I get to live with this stupidity.

The strange thing is mine will sometimes remember to kick the recirc on. Could it possibly have something to do with the outside temp?

Why would it want to remember to recirc when your car is 100+ degrees inside and is just recirc that hot air? Dont know, but maybe??

My theory is less air to cool down. If it recircs the inside air and it get's cooler and cooler and outside temp is 90, better to recirc the inside air to cool down. My theories have been known to be way off.

LOL. Makes sense. I have no idea I was just putting my thoughts.

yes, recirc the air you just conditioned would make it cool qucker. also, what if you are out in the boonies where its incredibly dusty, who wants "fresh" air out there. Or when you are about to go to work in the morning and sit in traffic, who wants to sit and smell fumes? This soft toggle just doesnt seem well thought out.

So my tahoe is in for service, one of the things I asked them to look at was this a/c toggle thing. 3 of the service guys in the room agreed this is kinda lame and should be fixed. no real news really, just figured i'd share :)

Actually most manufacturers recommend that on hot days, you start w/o recirc because the air outside while hot is not as hot as inside. Then after a few minutes when the hot inside air has been purged, go to recirc.

"recommend," not always force you to hit recirc button every time you get in the friggin car.

Recurc should not come on if it was on before.

Each time it sits you should start with fresh then move to recurc then ultimately away from it. so why would I want it to be on from last time??
