Car Max Trade in Offer on 2009 Tahoe LTZ
 

Took the Tahoe to Car Max to get a trade in offer, so when we trade it in on the Model 3, we know if it's good enough, or to go private sale.

Would like 15k for the truck, would take 13k. was expecting 12k on trade... they offered 11k.

Tahoe is flawless condition, the rear DVD player still has the plastic on it, and the RSE headphones are still in the original box.
3rd row seats were stored in the basement since NEW. NEVER used.

Soon as she can configure her car I'm going to post it online, maybe someone can make a better offer than Car Max.
In PA you get 6% trade in credit on the new car registration (tax)... so that has to factor into the hassle of a private sale too.

Overall carmax was very clean, professional, and if I was looking for a gas sucker, maybe I'd check their website!

Wheels look amazing - they were covered in plasti dip for the past 5 years. look brand new under neath. Tires are all 9/32"

How many miles on the Tahoe? What's the underside look like?

135,000 I think.
I ended up keeping it. Sold my Tesla Model S. Planning to trade the Tahoe in on a Tesla Model X in 6-18 months...

I can't say if it is a good deal or not. What I can say is I am getting $4k for mine, with 269k on the clock. The interior is probably not as mint as yours but it is pretty mint compared to any I saw when looking at used ones before I bought this one. $11k is probably a respectable number, but back when I bought mine used from the dealer, I think it was $14k? And that was with 172k on it.

The question is, do you have time to deal with the hassle of private sale? I feel that your $13-15k is a respectable asking price.

The problem w/ a vehicle that old and that many miles is that CarMax will just run it thru the auction since it doesn't fit their inventory req'ts.

Yep, that's what they said. It's too old to sit on a Car Max lot. Shame since it's in such nice shape.

I don't know why I bother keeping cars so nice. When they have "too many" miles or are "too old" they are all worth the same anyway... :-/

I'll now drive the Tahoe until I decide on a Model X or Y. (the Y reveal is supposed to be March 2019)

I do it because it makes it easier to sell in a private sale. I usually sell most of my used cars myself.
