Cargo doors vs. hatch

Is there anything wrong with the side opening cargo doors vs. the vertical hatch?

I'm looking at Tahoes and found 2 that I like, but one has the vertical hatch and the other has side opening doors.

Thanks for any input.

With the hatch you can sit at the tailgate while its raining and not get wet...
With the hatch you get a full 180 degree view of things around and to the sides..
With the hatch you only have to secure one door when hauling a load longer then the bed of the truck....

Welcome to the forum.

Some of the early "barn door" model trucks had exposed hinges like full size vans. Always seemed like they were rusty.

Really depends on what you like.

I have the "barn doors", cargo doors, as you call them. They are the best for access loading into the rear cargo area for the wife (5'-0" tall). Pretty sure less moving parts. the hinges have been covered for a while now.

Most prefer the vertical hatch. Might want to think about that for resale.

barn doors seem to be less problematic...

I kinda liked the 90's model that had the lift glass and the tail gate....

+1 Then you could haul long stuff and close the glass. Leaving a hatch open would just stress the heck out of the hinges.

tvone,

Personally, I like the hatchback style better. I have a TrailBlazer and the hatchback is very convenient. Plus you don’t have to really worry about the hatchback hitting anything like you would with the swing out doors. However, it is personal preference. Go with whichever you like the best.

Thank you,
