Check Engine Light
97 suburban's check engine light came on and everything looked fine, oil, water, battery etc. The wife had filled it with gas just prior to this happening. I checked the gas cap and it was 1/2 turn loose, so i tightened it and drove as usual for 50 miles, Fail. Having two people fail inspections for bad gas caps i changed out my old one. Another 50 miles, Fail. Two local auto parts stores couldn't get their code readers to read, no power, no help. Went out of town for the 4th and had another parts store give it a try. What a difference. Guy said "check your fuses" Who would have thought the code connection and lighter shared power. Quick recheck and i have faulty 02 sensor. I wouldn't even bat an eye doing it myself, but my youngest son (20) offered to do the job,:D What can i do to help my computer geek git-er-done?

Get the code, then it can be deduced as the problem
|
If it is the O2 sensor, then you'll need a special socket to remove and reinstall a new one.
|
sometimes you don't need the 02 socket, either way without knowing the code its hard to give any advice.
Many things can cause an 02 code |
On my 97 Tahoe I used a crescent wrench as the O2 sensors are very easy to get to....

P0153, P0154, P0155, All for "Bank 2 Sensor 1" Failure. Now to figure what part number i need. Bosh 13027($73.99) or Bosh 15703($48.99) AutoZone prices. Transmission model decides which one. Woo Hoo, Pan shape and year= 4L60E, The cheap one, Who would have guessed that!
