Gas pedal stuck in the full down position

Just a note to all 07 Tahoe owners: Do not tuirn the drivers side floor matt upside down and drive the car!! The gas pedal can and will stick if it is floored. I turned the mat upside down because it was raining and didn't want to get my brand new mats dirty. This was a big mistake; when I floored the gas pedal to pass a truck it stuck! It seems the nubs on the backside of the mat acted like a wedge not letting the pedal return. ...Lesson learned with no bad outcome. .....J.J.

Both feet on brake pedal and shifted in and out of drive until I could get from middle lane to the shoulder. Brakes were smoking. So far no indication of rotor warping. .....J.J.

Wow you are a lucky man. Kind of interesting you brought this up, because when I went to test drive the '07 Tahoes the local dealer here had all the mats turned upside down for the same reason you did. I bet they would reconsider doing that if they heard your story.

Couldn't you just turn the key off?

...And loose power brakes and the ability to turn!?

You get at least one stop plus without the power, you still have brakes, albeit very much pressure is req'd. The steering is still there, just stiff.

I seem to remember that GM did a recall of trucks in the late 80's or early 90's for the floor mats. The driver side mats were trimmed so that they would not interfere with the gas pedal. That's why the mats are labeled 'Driver' and 'Passenger'. The dealer should know this.

Now let's just look at this from a common sense stand point:
If you turn your floor mat upside down; what happens to the relief (the cut-out) in the mat that is there so the mat does not interfere with the throttle pedal?

There have been so many DCS messages sent out to dealers over the years urging them not to do this it isn't even funny.

As long as the person in the panic of things does not turn the key position to far back as to lock the steering wheel. That would seriously suck.

Didn't know they did that anymore. My TrailBlazer didn't and neither do my Tahoes.

Don't want to upset anybody but, come on!
Turning mats upside down so you don't get them dirty? ?????????
Go out find the nearest mud hole and get the whole thing caked in it, its what they're made for.

Not so sure I agree with this. Jeep's are made for muddin', Tahoe's are made for road trips, towing, and anything else in between (a little bit of camping too). I put towels down over the tops of my floor mats. These things are paper thin and are going to wear out in a few months if you don't take care of them. By the way, I used to own a '03 Jeep Rubicon and I wouldn't dream of taking the Tahoe into some of the mud holes I took that baby.

The factory mats are so crappy that I use them in the winter to protect my Lloyd's mats. :D

You got that right. Most factory mats look like they are made from carpet remnants and will not hold up to average use.

One of the first thinga I do when I purchase a new vehicle is put the factory mats in a box and go buy some huskyliners. THen when I trade her in I out the factory mats back in and its lloks great because they are still new.

Chevy g20 takes off in reverse due to stuck gas pedal

I was leaving someone's house and I put the gear into reverse in my Chevy G20 van just took off. No matter how hard I pressed the brakes, the Van would not stop. I had to throw it in park in a attempt to stop it. see gas pedal stuck

maybe turn the key off

this multiple mat thing that spurred a massive Toyota recall. engineering had to protect people from themselves. now if the vehicle detects a depressed accelerator and brake pedal...the electronic throttle is programmed to close
