how to change diff. oil on 08 Suburban?
Can anyone tell me or point me in the right dirrection as to how I can change the diff. oil on my 08 Suburban. Also, would you recommend I use something like Royal Purple if I do some towing?

if your changing the rear diff oil. its simple nothing complicated.
unbolt the diff cover let oil drain out. get a can of "the right stuff" its a silicone gasket maker in like a squeeze cheese can type. put that on your diff cover replace the diff cap to the diff bolt it back on tighten the bolts with a ratchet hand tight then an 1/8th turn more. wipe all the excess right stuff off. there should be a bolt on the right side behind the diff by the driveshaft and should take a 3/8 drive to take it out. fill it til fluid starts coming out.put the bolt back on. drive it for a few days check it and refill if needed. im using royal purple and havent had any problems with it. i would recommend it. any questions just ask |
Be careful not to use too much silicone...

Thanks guys, easier than what I thought it would be.

FYI, Haynes makes a manual that details these maintenance procedures. It is for the Silverado but also covers the SUVs. You can pick one up for $15.

I am new to these trucks, at what mileage should this be replaced and are their any benefits to using anything other than GM fluid? we just got a 2007 Tahoe that has 46k miles. It looks to have never been used for towing and we probably wont tow much of anything either. Just a gas hog family hauler!
thanks |
Your owner's manual details maintenance intervals.
