Hello

I live far away from US, so it was SO difficult to get one but now I HAVE IT!
It's been 3 years of dreaming of it:))
I will post pics in the proper place here!

Unfortunately, i have a problem.
I got this yellow message twice already, (shown in the pic below) and the guy at the service shop suggested i should change the gas tank. He said there is a broken valve inside the tank. Did any of you encountered this problem caused by a gas tank valve ?
My Tahoe is 2008/LTZ.

Regards

that is the check engine light.. have somebody scan it when it is on..if you can..

Revilo Feb 16, 2010 1:51 AM

I've scaned it and the technician says I should change the whole gas tank..!
The manual says that if the light is on steady I probably didn't screw the fuel cap properly..
Did this happened to anyone before and you had to change the gas tank?

Happened to my 04 silverado a friend rexomened that I disconect battery for 15 minutes to reset CPU, it worked for me try it it can't hurt.

Could you tell us what the code was? I've never heard of changing out the entire fuel tank for a code, prolly just the gas cap...

Make sure the gas cap is on securely by tightening 'til it clicks several times. After several start cycles the lite should go off if that was the problem.

On this side of the pond, the auto parts stores will scan for codes for free. If you can get a code, then we can help.

the only reason you should have to replace your tank is if there is a crack in it i would think. you would have a leak when you fill up all the way. by my illustration it looks like there is a connector at the rear of the tank but i believe it only goes to your evap system. after you drive around do you smell fuel really strong. if you dont and there isnt any leaks than i would replace your tank unless someone can show you the problem with it. and not pictures. look at the tank in person.

Hi
Thanks for your replies.

No leaks, no fuel smell, cap is in place as far as can tell..!

So I went back to the service shop to get the error code:

P0446 EVAPORATIVE EMISSION (EVAP)
VENT. SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

The mechanic said that inside the tank is a valve that's broken..

That still sounds a lil sketchy to me. My truck is throwing the code, P0442 or P0445, that means I need to replace the gas cap... I'm not buying a new until it warms up though. I think its the cold that may be messing with it.

Revilo Feb 17, 2010 6:38 PM

So I googled my p0446 error.
It appears that the vent valve is the problem and is well known.
Question: Do you have any idea if the vent valve in 2008 Tahoe is INSIDE the tank?
Could you tell where is it and how it looks like?
If I can find it and clean it it should be ok.
The car is eating so much gas now.. I have to fix it fast.

Regards
