Default transmission does not engage

2010 Suburban 4wd - I went to my parking spot to go to work, started it and then put it into 4wd (it had just snowed) and shifted into R BUT tranny did not engage at all; so I shifted into D; it still did not engage.

I turned it off and came back in 10 minutes, started it and shifted into 2wd and R and it engaged. I backed up, shifted into D and it engaged. I went forward less than 100 feet and it disengaged. It would no engage unless I turned it off and started over. I now have it parked.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.

When you shift it into 4WD, did the transfer case actually shift into four-wheel drive?
