looking at a 2007 suburban 2500 tomorrow
#11
I'm seeing 6-speed in 2008 2500s, vin decoder corroborates the listings. Problem is I'm getting into serious travel, flying kinda travel. I've got some time to watch for one closer. I'm leaning towards telling the dealer that stood me up yesterday to keep it once it returns from vacation and see if I can find a 6-speed.

it also looks like maybe there is only 3:73 axle ratios with the 6-speed in the 2500 and a 9400# rating for 4wd, not a certain combo to look for to get the higher tow capacity which may make things easier than with the 2007

I think either 07 or 08 was the last year they put the 4L80e trans in the 3/4 ton subs. that I think is the heavier duty tranny used still in the Silverados, at least thru '12. I own a 07 3/4 ton Sub LT w 4:10 rear, limited slip etc.. great truck , gas mileage is same as my V10 Exc. which is POOR. Just now at 65k the manifold bolts went, dash cracked, seals in the rear axel went etc.. Torque converter went at around 56k. Otherwise great vehicle suspension and steering is definately stiffer then the Exc which I prefer when towing heavy. Good luck w search

I can't say I'm not a bit scared the more I learn about these things, I'm used to little import trucks that just go forever. My v10 truck I've worked on more than anything before combined, guess its just how these big boy toys work.
I think I'm now thinking the 07 specifically I'll avoid. Either an 08 with the 6-speed or an 03-06 with what looks like a usable front middle jumpseat. The 07-current seem to have a big dash bulge which makes the front middle 9th passenger legroom non-existant. Not that I've seen one in person *grumble*.

Not sure what you mean by "Front row middle passenger", Not going to happen on a suburban with a console, dont they all have consoles?

we currently tow with a kid in that front middle in my f350, which has a headrest and shoulder belt. not optimal. I notice there doesn't seem to be a headrest and shoulder belt option at all in the gm side of things. We want it for the occasional bringing of kids friends along around town which often overflows the honda odyssey.
