My 5.3 has no EGR... is that normal?
I picked up a '04 5.3 motor from a suburban and I am building it into a 383 stroker
My question is, the core motor I bought does not have an EGR system. The cutout from the header heat shield is there, but no flange anywhere.
Is this normal for these engines? Do I have some kind of "flex fuel" engine? I can not find the vin anywhere...
On a side note, I have torn down the entire engine and sent the block for machining. For a motor with 145k miles, it was in INCREDIBLY good condition. All clearances were within spec, there was ZERO sludge/buildup, and all bearing surfaces were shiny silver - no copper. Very impressive engine, it just goes to show how far a regular oil change will take you!

Alot of the later LS series engines had no EGR, specifically the LS6 style intakes on the Corvette/Camaro after 1999. I'm sure its similar for the LS truck engines
