Default Nav Noise

I just bought a new 07 Tahoe withNav and even when off it will make sounds like it is reading the Nav DVD every so often. I've taken disc out of the top loader so I know it's not a CD or DVD. Also, it happens in the morning and one night I went to get something out of my truck at like midnight and it was making the sound. Anybody else having this or know a fix? Asked the service dept and they scratched their heads on it....

TIA

If it makes you feel better, my nav unit does the same thing... I would like to know why too!

They all do that after the car is off for a while and you enter the car. I am sure it has to do with power going to the radio when you enter the car and its like a wakeup procedure to get it ready as soon as you turn it on. Even your home DVD player should make some noise if a DVD is in it when its plug is powered on. Its nothing to be concerned with.

After doing a little test overnight, I'm happy to report that Tomm is correct. I rolled down the window and listened for it first thing this morning. No sound. As soon as I opened the door it started doing it's thing. Thanks Tomm!

We actully reported this as an issue to our dealer a few months ago thinking that the Nav unit wasn't powering down properly. They had to go to GM Engineering and found out that this is actually a "feature" that whenever you unlock or open a door the Nav unit powers up -thus shortening the NAV/GPS satelite locating time (I know my handheld GPS can take upwards of 1-2 minutes from a "cold-start" to located the required 3-4 GPS Satelites and display my current position).
