Need new tires soon
 

Hi everybody,
Our 2007 Yukon 4x4 has 40,000 miles now and I will be replacing the tires soon before the next long trip. It has the P265/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler ATS tires on it now. I don't really want more Goodyear tires so would like opinions on which tire to replace them with. Our driving is mostly all highway towing a 3300 pound travel trailer so the P tires seem to be doing fine.

My vote would be the Michelin LTX M/S. I have had these tires on several vehicles and they ride great and wear like Iron. They are the top rated tire on Tirerack.com for their class. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....on&autoModClar=

I put BFGs on my wife's 04 Tahoe. I too like Michelins, just couldn't afford them at the time and also don't know how long she'll keep the truck.

Agree the Miche's will get double the life of the Goodyear or the BFG's but will set you back a pretty penny... I have 53k on my Original Bridgestones and still have lots-o-tread left... not sure what I will go with when the time comes....
wife wants me to go with new rims and tires to get the Tonka look I had on my 97 Tahoe...

I just bought my '01 Suburban about a month ago and it needed new tires. My driving environment is about the same as yours so I would recommend the tires I bought.

This is the comparative test Tire Rack did on the HTS. There is even a video of the test. The HTS beat out the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenzas and the Pirelli Scorpion STRs.

I am amazed at how quiet these tires ride. I only have a few hundred miles on them, but so far, they were very stable in the rain and fine in the snow.

Anyway, if you read the customer survey, everyone seems to love them. And the price is great.

Thanks all who replied, in the end I installed the General Grabber HTS tires today and with just a 5 mile drive home feel they are way superior to the Goodyear Wranglers that were on the Yukon! Only time will tell how they hold up but they are certainly much quieter than the Goodyears. A local dealer matched Tire Rack's price including shipping and they included the AZ sales tax here so I got the same deal as Tire Rack offered and the date codes were only 60 days old, so happy with that.

Good to hear. I still like mine as well. Getting ready to take a longer interstate trip, so we'll see how they do.

I have 73,000 miles on my OEM tires. I'm about to replace them with Yokohama Geolanders. I put them on my wife's Jeep back in December, and found them to be a really nice tire both on the highway as well as in the deep snow.

The Yokohama Geolandars were my first choice, but the price and review of the General Grabbers won out.

I just bought my '01 Suburban and I knew going into this summer that gas prices were going to spike so I went with a tire more geared for the highway. I felt like the Geolandar tread was maybe a bit too aggressive for the best mileage.

My '01 has 113K on it and at the last fillup with mostly in-town driving, I was at about 19.1 MPG. My friend's brand new Ford Escape clone, A Mercury gets 22 MPG.

That's interesting to note, Mike because my '07 sees only highway travel now since I took it out of daily driving duties a couple of years ago. We now use it almost exclusively to travel back and forth from MA to southern NJ now, and it sees little use other than that. I will look into the Generals Grabbers you mentioned. My wife's Liberty is the local driver and sees a lot of snow duty. We took it on the a weekend trip to Maine in early December just after I put the Geolanders on it. I noticed they hummed a little bit at interstate speed. In the deep snow, they are very good, and it was my vehicle of choice to make the 50 mile trip to work on the many snowy days we've had this winter. We're at 7 feet for the season and still accumulating.
