oil change question

I have a 2003 suburban 2500 LT Autoride. the owners manual says to change the oil every 10,000 miles or once a year, whatever comes first. the oil life indicator has been saying 60% for several months now. I have never heard of changing the oil just once a year or the 10,000 miles. every car that I have owned in the past has always said to change the oil every 3,000 miles. should I wait till I reach the 10,000 mark or change it every 3,000 miles. thanks.

Boy you are opening a can of worms for opinions...

If the vehicle is new to you, I would suggest having it changed now and have the monitor reset to ensure its working correctly....
I typically get mine changed in my 07 two times a year or about every 7-8k miles. I use the oil life monitor and M1

If you want to ignore the monitoring system I would say go with about every 4500... longer if you are using full synthetic.....

I just did my first oil change on my 2010 Tahoe, just over 3,000 miles. But, so far I'm using conventional oil, will read more before deciding on what I will use for the long term. Even if synthetic I doubt I'd go beyond 5,000 given the potential oiling issues with the 5.3 MDS.

10,000 miles??? NO WAY!

I do believe the literature that GM originally put out about the OLMS showed a potential of 12,000 before an oil change....and 10k is very do-able with synthetic and mostly highway miles as long as the level is kept in check...

The powertrain warranty is based upon using conventional oil and oil life monitoring system. I go about 7K miles in a year and 0% on the OLMS. I do use Mobil 1 but would do the same w/ conventional oil.

I should have added that since I have a GM certified vehicle with free oil changes, I'll be letting them put their conventional in unless I do the changes myself. After waiting over an hour for my "quick lube" I'm not so sure it's really free if my time is worth anything!

ok thanks for the input. when I do the oil changes on my other vehicles I will change this oil and have the system reset and start fresh. didn't know there would be a big difference in responses.

thanks that helps a lot. looking at the chart it says that I should get about 7000 miles in between oil changes.

I've been doing once a year 10,000 mile AMSOIL synthetic oil and filter changes for the past 9 years on my 140,000 mile 2007 Venture and it runs great.
