oil life 07 tahoe

I wanted to see if most people rely on the oil life indicator or mileage? when we purchased our Tahoe I replaced with Mobil 1 synthetic and a Mobil 1 filter. well it has been 7000 miles and the oil life indicator says 30% left. our city/highway mix is probably 70/30 so I would think it would be about time to change per the indicator but it is not.
i will probably change it anyway soon but was wondering how everyone else judges. this is my first car with an oil life indicator
thanks!

I use Mobil 1 and go by the monitor which for me is about 7K-8K mi. Mostly city. In my wife's 2004 which bought used and I use regular oil, I change it at 70%-90%. Those are both pretty conservative. The monitor takes in to account a lot of factors and my guess is that it's a little conservative also.

I rely on the OLMS in my 07 Tahoe using Mobil-1 and and AC filter
typically get 7-8K miles out and take it in at about 15% or less, I have never gotten to the point of it telling me to have it service, no particular reason for that thou it just works out that way so I don't end up needing an oil change while on the road traveling. it comes out to about 2 times a year...

hmm, I running on royal purple and changing in about 30-40%.

GM says you can get up to 12k miles out of an oil change with the OLMS depending on driving conditions with dino oil...

vrso2: Kind of a waste isn't it?

vrso2 August 8th, 2010 5:55 PM

hmmm, well, hi-performance oil is never waste ;)

What I meant was that it was a waste to change it that often unless you've got money to burn.

hmmm, well, idk :) Use to do it on my Audi. Change after 5k :)

I have always changed at 7500 miles in my Acura TL to keep things simple. I was thinking about that same for the Tahoe but it looks like we may be able to go a while longer. I wonder how many miles you could get if it was all highway driving?
so it seems that most of you all go by the indicator, guess I will have to get comfortable with that - this is our newest car other than my '99TL so things have changed just a bit!
thanks all
