Purchasing Previous Rental from Northeast

CA Suburban owner looking to replace my 2002 Z71. I remember my father saying long ago that vehicles in the northeast do not last as long due to weather exposure, rust ,etc. Wondering what the general opinions are about newer models.

Should I be avoiding a 2016 Suburban that was previously a Rental in PA just because it was exposed to Northeast Weather?

If they salt the roads there, avoid it.

I’d avoid it because it was a former rental regardless of where it was in service.

If it was a rental, yes, I would avoid it. If it was a dealer-leased vehicle, that's a different story. Many dealer-leased vehicles are single user and returned in excellent condition with low miles and good service records. Most end up in a dealer's Certified Pre-Owned section. Those that don't usually have more miles than the lease allowed or are more than 3 years old and don't qualify for CPO. Either way, they typically go through a detailed inspection before being put out for sale. Any that come back from lease in poor condition are usually sold at auction and not on the lot.

Any vehicle used in a rental fleet was probably not well cared for and/or has high miles. Definitely avoid those as well as any vehicle driven where they salt the roads in winter.

I would never buy a rental car... they exist to test the limits of every part there is.
