Steering Wheel Coating Flaking Off

I have a '07 Tahoe LT3. The coating on what I guess you would call the steering wheel spokes (flat black areas on each side between the air bag and the rim) is flaking off. Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do- is it a warranty issue? It's going to look terrible if it continues at the current rate.

My 07 Tahoe also has some of the faux finish flaking off right at the corners of the spokes where it contacts the wheel, I figured it was my wife picking at it nails....

its kinda of an odd place too because I don't touch or grib the wheel at that point

I suspect it is poor design as the painted area under it is shinny black....

My silverado does it to. Started at 500miles. It's all almost gone now. Looks better with the shiny black though.

that's what I thought too...its almost like the rubbery coating was an afterthought...
I just haven't committed to rubbing it all off as its barely noticeable on mine so far...

I noticed my '07 started doing it a little bit after about threee years old. Probably why the new ones have a metal finish on them now.

I have that on mine. It keeps coming off. Can you just replace/repaint those pieces? I was thinking about taking off the airbag to see if those were replaceable.

I have been tossing around getting a Junkyard wheel recovered at an upholstery shop

If the new ones have a metal finish, I want one. Think there's any chance of getting this covered under warranty? Are the spokes replaceable or do you have to change the whole wheel?

Im going to guess its the whole wheel
