Suburban transmission problems
I’m shopping around for a current generation suburban and I’ve noticed on a few higher mileage (90-110k) examples, the carfax says the transmission had been changed. Are the transmissions not reliable or are these vehicles outliers? Thanks in advance! |

Dealer said there was a design issue and it was corrected in the new ones they were installing. $3300 later and the problem was fixed. 4 months after my 7 year 100000 warranty expired. Chevy did nothing to help. I also had the BG treatment in the transmission and when I inquired about their coverage I was outside of the mileage change interval. Read BGs warranty very carefully. |

The problem (or perhaps a different one) still exists. I've noticed a few in the current generation (2015-present) that have had their transmission replaced far sooner than I would expect necessary.
Up until this point, I've owned several Volkswagens and I've put anywhere from 200k upwards of 570k on them and only replaced one transmission. The 570k VW saw an engine rebuild before I replaced the trans at 570k. I could have kept driving on it though because I only lost 5th gear. |
Tahoe tranny 2015
My 2015 tranny was replaced just under 60K...Tahoe. Today the new tranny lost gears at 76K. Seems the problem continues for me.

Beware of purchasing ANY new generation model. As for the 2015 thru 2019 GM Tahoe, for example, the transmissions continue to fail with no fix in sight. I have read of a proposed class action lawsuit regarding these vehicles, but better to just avoid the noid.
