U Joint HELP!
 

Hi, I have a 97 Chevy Sub k1500 4x4 5.7L. I'm replacing my ujoints on the Drive Shaft, but The new ones (Caps) will not seat properly. They are inside clamps, one clamp goes on perfect but the other one will not. Please Help.......The U-Joints I have are 534G's....Let's just say they will not sit flush with the ears of the drive shaft. Any thoughts?

if i understand you right sounds like you dont have a cap fully seated and the groves wont allow the c clip to go in?

Pull your caps off and make sure you don't have a needle bearing that has gotten caught at the end of the cap between the end of the cross and the cap.

Thank you for your reply. I did that twice and also switched the u joints with another one. Same thing is happening

the ears could bend but that tends to happen when the cup isnt seated right and binds up. what i do is use a vise and put a nut on the one side thats not seating right and just crank the vise. on my 02 i just replaced the u-joints last year and one did give me a fight but after squeezing it with the vice it sat right and i was on my way

back before i had a good vice i would use a c-clamp. you can try a socket or something to rest the bottom ears on and a smaller socket to fit into the ears on the top side and smack it but if its not lined up right you can knock a pin loose.
