what octane is best for 2008 suburban

I have been told that I need to use premium only and that if I used the 87 octane it would not run as well and I would not get as good of gas mileage as the 97 octane??

That's got the Vortec 5300 5.3L? Designed to run on 87. The 6.0L is recommends premium, but runs on 87 just fine. I've run both engines on both octanes and it doesn't seem to make a difference in performance or economy.
I'd run 87 and put the $ saved in the maintenance budget.

No, GM does not recommend premium for the 6.0. Regular unleaded is fine for both engines.

GM does recommend premium for the 6.2 in the Escalades and Denalis. Personally, I'm not willing to trust the knock sensors to run 87 octane in my 6.2. She only gets premium.
