ABS Sensor replacement
I have a 2008 Suburban that when turning corners and applying the brake the brake pedal vibrates and acts like the ABS is taking control. Traction control light comes on and blinks and then goes away, Should I replace the ABS sensors? took it to 2 local shops and they say no codes and no issues. Drove down a rock road and the brakes didn't want to work at all. Truck is lifted 6 inches and has 35 inch tires. Tire shop says its part of the price you pay to have a big lifted truck, I don't believe that answer!
Anybody else have this problem or changed their own ABS Sensors? Looks pretty simple and parts are only about $50.00 from Rock Auto. But I don't want to throw money at the problem if it does nothing to repair the problem. Any advice would be great!:) |
tire shops are not the best choice for difficult diagnosis.
false abs activation which occurs when coming to a stop is usually from a bad abs sensor. The signal falls out and the abs module thinks the wheel is locking up. Typically no codes are generated as the sensor works fine at higher speeds. The way we do this at the dealership is to: -trigger the scan tool to record the abs signals during the false activation event -the data is then uploaded onto a laptop and plotted to a graph form -each signal once plotted is viewed and the one that drops out can be identified. replacing that abs sensor will fix the problem. without that equipment, it will be a guess. |
Thank you for the info, makes complete sense. I will run in to a chevy dealer and get a diagnostics on the sensor problem. Appreciate the info!

have a talk with the service writer. Make sure you get a tech who knows how to do this procedure.
I'd print off this post and let them read it. Just in case tire shop tech starts his first day at the dealership! lol |
