2001 tracker rear drum brakes
does anybody know how to get the rear drums off a 2001 tracker? this is not the first time i've worked on a car and i cannot figure how to remove the drums.
i did the front disks, no problem. |

Check this link ... apparantely there's two holes in the drum for metric bolts to remove the drums. |

On my 2002 Tracker you have to use 2 8MM bolts and screw them into the 2 holes in the vertical surface of the drum. The bolts push on the axel and force the drum off. I can't remember if the bolts have a fine or course thread, sorry.

From the factory the drums are drilled and tapped for M8 x 1.25 bolts. It's possible someone forced a 5/16" (7.9 mm) bolt through the hole. If that happened the correct metric bolt will no longer fit. Your options are to try a 5/16" bolt (either 18 or 24 threads per inch) or run a metric tap through the hole and hope you can restore the threads. |
