was making a grinding noise for some time. I knew that I needed to replace the brakes but had to wait till payday. I just recently bought this vehicle so I have no knowledge of previous maintenance. I thought I was going in for a standard break up job. But when I pulled everything off, I discovered the caliper bracket had been severely ground down. I’m not sure if the axle is supposed to move freely when everything‘s off. What’s your opinion? Do I need to replace the knuckle question should I replace the CV axle? Or just the CV axle boot and brakes going to be enough?
