RE: Ball Joint 02

I just checked GMPartsDirect.com and a lowerball joint sells for $57, an upper sells for $55 and checked the labor time guide, and to do both on one side of the vehicle take 2hrs. To do only one take 1 hour. So to do all 4 at a labor rate of $80\hr (guess) comes up to $544.

The price of the ball joints is wholesale pricing.....MSRP on them is around $100. Paying full price for the parts would put you at $720. So your not being ripped off, your just paying full price. So if you could get your own parts, you could save yourself $200

Costing parts

imho, you will pay $1 for a part and $1 for labor at most auto shops.
dealers will increase parts by 50% and thus increase labor by that much.

the math works out that you can do a job, with parts, for 25% of the dealer charges...plus the cost of beer.

I CALL THIS THE "PRICE RULES OF DIY"

use youtube, rockauto, trailvoy (other blogs), google, justanswers. all you need is a little mechanical fortitude and confidence to fix most issues outside of the engine block.
