Can't get key out of ignition
Just bought a used 2009 Traverse. Occasionally, the ignition will turn to Off and will not come out. Car will start, just can't get the key out. Dealer replaced the battery saying that a leaking battery can cause anything to happen, but that doesn't make much sense. Any thoughts?

battery issues can cause lots of things but a stuck key ain't likely one of them...
Have you tried apply a dry lubricant to the key? Don't get crazy with it but a light spray to the key and wipe it down and a wee spot in the ignition key port might help. could also try wiping the key shaft down with a light coating of silicon lubricant.. |
TraverseinOhio, could you keep me up to date on the fix for your vehicle through a direct message. Thank you for your time.

i've seen this happen with floor shift automatics. alot of gm cars use a solenoid/sensor at the shifter that locks the key into ignition when in gear. once you put vehicle in park, it releases the key. if the sensor gets dirty or worn, it may not allow the key to come out of ignition. i'd look to see if you have such a sensor on your vehicle. it might still be known as the park/neutral safety switch.
