I knock the dirt out of my filters, then vacuum them. I then put them in a pail of warm water with laundry detergent and a little bleach and slosh them around for a couple of minutes. Then hose them off and let them dry out. Put them back in and you're good to go. They work like new.

I did the same thing as Papa Bear. I just washed them up and put the filter back in place. They are just pieces of sponge like material.

You can eventually wash cheap paper filters only. Active carbon filters are not washable. I prefer carbon filters though. More expensive but eliminate outside odours. I change my filters once a year. Dirty filters decrease A/C and ventilation performance.

For Chevrolet Uplander from year 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 you can see here how to locate and replace your cabin air filter.

I hope is useful!
Thanks!

I actually want to replace the stock cabin filters (located in the glove box) with charcoal filters at some point to try and filter out the funky diesel exhaust around here.

Has anyone that's done this noticed a big difference in interior air quality?

Thanks

Jeremy

i clean mine with a vacuum cleaner using a small nozzle to reach the lower pocket. it work perfect except the material look dirty a bit. I find that the price of these filters are a rip off. The Uplander need 2 of them and it cost $50. for replacing them. Why so expensive? The material is very the same of a regular engine air filter. I will keep cleaning nine every 4 months.

Papa Bear February 9th, 2014 9:40 AM

Pick up a couple of pair next time you are in the US.

I have vacuum and washed them before in soapy water with bleach. I let them dry well and re-installed them and they worked fine.

princej February 9th, 2014 12:48 PM

i cleaned mine today using papabears method. worked great. and my oh my they were dirty.

funny how 4 G.M dealers in my area never said one to change them.
and yeah, they are expensive.

Canadian tire has them for $30 each.

capucine February 9th, 2014 4:18 PM

And you need 2 of them. $60. plus tax. I can imagine the price at the dealer. Probably close to $80. I will bleach mine like Papa Bear has done on his to make it white again.

very cheap prices and free shipping
Check rockauto.com and see the prices there. 2 noname paper particulate filters are CAD11, carbon filters start from CAD11 each. Just to have an idea how much the filters cost - probably less than a dollar, made in China.

Shipping from RockAuto to my address in Canada is $33.86 making a total of $44.66.

No deal there .....

Where do you live Val ?

Val D. February 11th, 2014 5:28 AM

Shipping is another story. I'm talking about the real price of filters. Paper only filters with this small size come from China for less than a dollar a piece. I remember buying 4 pcs for about $20 with free shipping off eBay few years ago. I live in Toronto.

Papa Bear February 11th, 2014 6:26 AM

Well, I would say the "real" price of filters from RockAuto is $44.66 unless I want to drive to Indiana to pick them up .......
